Section 01 — the catalogue

Charted worlds

Each entry below was downloaded, played for real hours, and logged. Links go straight to the official store page — every world here is free to start.

GM-01 · ◆ active surveyclass — battle royale
Apex Legends store capsule artwork Apex Legends vertical poster artwork

Apex Legends

Respawn Entertainment · 2019 · ongoing

A battle royale built on Titanfall's velocity — sliding, wall-runs and a ping system so good it rewired the whole genre. Each Legend brings a kit, but gunplay stays king, and every weapon and character is reachable without paying. No-mic squads still win on communication alone.

  • Squads of 3
  • Best-in-class ping

  • Windows · console

GM-02 · ◆ active surveyclass — looter-shooter
Destiny 2 store capsule artwork Destiny 2 vertical poster artwork

Destiny 2

Bungie · 2017 · free since 2019

The best first-person gunfeel in any live game, wrapped in a loot grind that never quite lets go. The free New Light tier hands you the core playlists, the Crucible and strikes; paid expansions gate the newest story, but there are hundreds of hours before you ever reach that wall.

  • PvE + PvP
  • Sublime gunplay
  • Paid expansions
  • Windows · console
Acquire on Steam
GM-03 · ◆ active surveyclass — hero shooter
Marvel Rivals store capsule artwork Marvel Rivals vertical poster artwork

Marvel Rivals

NetEase Games · 2024 · ongoing

A 6v6 hero shooter that reads the room — destructible cover, team-up moves and a roster pulled straight from Marvel's deep bench. Free from the first download, with everything that matters earnable; the shop sells skins, not advantages. The newest world on this chart and the busiest.

  • 6v6
  • Destructible maps
  • Skins-only shop
  • Windows · console
Acquire on Steam
GM-04 · ◆ active surveyclass — arena FPS
THE FINALS store capsule artwork THE FINALS vertical poster artwork

THE FINALS

Embark Studios · 2023 · ongoing

A game-show FPS where the arena itself is ammunition — walls come down, floors give way, and the smartest demolition wins the cashout. Free to drop in, generous with unlocks, and unlike anything else on the sky chart for sheer kinetic chaos.

  • Team modes
  • Fully destructible
  • Cosmetic economy
  • Windows · console
Acquire on Steam
GM-05 · ◆ active surveyclass — melee battle royale
Naraka: Bladepoint store capsule artwork Naraka: Bladepoint vertical poster artwork

Naraka: Bladepoint

24 Entertainment · 2021 · free since 2023

A 60-player brawl that swaps guns for blades, grappling hooks and parry duels with genuine depth. It went free-to-play and never looked back — heroes and the core combat cost nothing, and the melee skill ceiling is high enough to chase for a very long time.

  • 60-player
  • Skill-based melee
  • Free heroes
  • Windows · console
Acquire on Steam
GM-06 · ◆ active surveyclass — platform fighter
Brawlhalla store capsule artwork Brawlhalla vertical poster artwork

Brawlhalla

Blue Mammoth Games · 2017 · ongoing

A Smash-style platform fighter that has been free and cross-play for years. A weekly rotation of Legends is always free, the full roster is cheap, and nothing sold ever touches the balance — pure, readable, couch-or-online fighting that runs on practically anything.

  • Up to 8 players
  • Cross-play
  • No pay-to-win
  • Windows · console · mobile

Section 02 — the key

How to read a chart

Every catalogue entry is annotated like an observation log. Here is what each mark means — none of it is a score.

GM-0X

Catalogue designation. Sequential, in the order a world entered this edition of the survey.

◆ active survey

Live status. We still play the title and revise its entry whenever the game meaningfully changes.

class — …

Genre filing. The shelf we'd put the world on — battle royale, hero shooter, looter-shooter — for quick navigation.

R.A. · DEC

Coordinate stamp. A decorative nod to a real star chart. It is flavour, deliberately not a numeric rating.

fact tags

Quick read. Player mode, how honest the monetisation is, and the platforms you can launch it on.

Acquire on Steam

Direct link. Straight to the official, free store page. The link is not affiliated and we earn nothing from it.

Section 03 — methodology

How we chart a world

Free does not mean fair. Before a game earns a designation in this catalogue it passes four readings.

01 / 04

Cost of entry

Can you play and progress meaningfully without spending? If the free tier is a demo in disguise, it never gets a designation.

02 / 04

Respect for time

We log how aggressively a game converts your hours into pressure to pay. Patience should buy progress, not just impatience.

03 / 04

Honest power

Cosmetics are fine. Selling raw competitive advantage is a fault line, and we say so plainly in the entry.

04 / 04

Hands-on hours

No store-page paraphrasing. Every world here was installed and played on our own machines before it was written up.

Section 04 — the principle

If a world is only free until it gets interesting, it was never free — just a toll road with a pretty gate.

We started this catalogue because "free-to-play" had quietly come to mean "free-to-sample." So we drew a line: a world earns a designation only if you can keep playing, and keep progressing, without ever reaching for a card. Cosmetics are welcome. Sold power is a fault line we name out loud.

It is a narrow sky on purpose. Fewer worlds, charted honestly, beats a hundred listings copied from a store page.

Section 05 — field notes

From the observation deck

Short transmissions from readers who followed a chart and launched a world.

"Your Apex entry nailed it — the ping system really is why my no-mic squad keeps winning. Free from minute one, exactly as charted."

— Relayed by D. Okonkwo

"I went in on the 'best gunfeel in any live game' line for Destiny 2. Three hundred hours later and I still haven't paid for an expansion."

— Relayed by M. Halvorsen

"The note that Marvel Rivals only sells skins is what got my whole group in. We dropped in free and nobody ever felt a step behind."

— Relayed by S. Abara

"Came for the 'guns for blades' line on Naraka, stayed for the parry duels. Brutal skill ceiling, not a cent spent — your warning was spot on."

— Relayed by L. Petrova

"Charting THE FINALS as 'the arena is ammunition' is the best one-line review I've read. Pulled the floor out from under a squad and I was hooked."

— Relayed by R. Mendes

"Brawlhalla being free, cross-play and never pay-to-win is exactly why I trust this catalogue. Same fight on my phone and my PC."

— Relayed by T. Iwama
